  1. That’s almost as naive a take as the the converse position. Apple is trying to canalize the advertisements on its platforms so it can extract value from it as the pay-for-apps model withers. It does this by setting up rules so that a lot user info stays on the device, not because it benefits the consumer but because it prevents advertisers from escaping the walled garden.

    Apple is doing it for Apple. But in this case, some of the interests do align.
